QUINN'S TREATMENTS AND SURGERIES

Chemotherapy

Quinn received his chemotherapy treatments through a PICC line from July 2006 until April 2007. During this time he had three different lines due to complications.

From April 2007 until July 8th 2007 he received his chemotherpay treatments through his port a cath in his chest.

On July 8th, 2007 Quinn had his very last chemotherapy treatment. It was time to celebrate!

EEG'S

Quinn has frequent EEG's to monitor his seizure disorder.

QUINN'S 1ST PICC PLACEMENT SURGERY

Quinn had surgery to place a PICC line in July, 2006 so that he could begin chemo therapy treatments. Unfortunately that line was pulled out in error during a chest xray, which led to the next surgery below.

QUINN'S 2ND PICC PLACEMENT SURGERY

July 2006, just 2 days after his 1st PICC placement, Quinn had surgery to place a 2nd line after the 1st one was accidently pulled out.

PICC RETRIEVAL AND 3RD PICC PLACEMENT SURGERIES

On November 30th, 2006 Quinn had an x-ray because we could not flush his PICC line. To our horror it was discovered that the line had broken and was floating freely in his heart. He was immediately flown to Toronto where he had emergency surgery to remove the broken line which by that time was also in his lungs. He then had his 3rd PICC line placement surgery.

REMOVAL OF INFECTED PICC LINE

In April 2007 Quinn's PICC line and PICC site became severly infected with a Staph infection and had to be pulled out. This was the last PICC line Quinn will ever have.

SURGERY TO IMPLANT A PORT

In April 2007 Quinn had surgery to implant a Port A Cath. After 3 PICC lines, all involved thought a Port would be a better choice.

LASER SURGERY #1

August 21st, 2007 Quinn had his very first pulsed dye laser treatment. He had a significant decrease in redness and for the first time in months his eye was wide open, 4 days later! We were estatic to finally be looking at both beautiful blue eyes!

Laser Surgery #2

Quinn had his second laser surgery on November 26th, 2007. This one was a little more aggressive because he responded well to the first one. He had some swelling of his right eye that lasted quite awhile but the treatment itself worked very well. There was more lightening and flattening of the hemangiomas. The laser again helped soften the scarred areas around his mouth.

Quinn's Port Removal Surgery

Quinn had surgery to remove his Port A Cath on February 7th, 2008. It marked the end of his chemotherapy journey. It was a very big day for Quinn. The surgery was an hour long and he was able to leave the hospital the same day.

Quinn's 3rd Laser Surgery

Quinn had his third laser surgery on March 17th, 2008 at Rouge Valley in Toronto. As usual his surgeon did a fantastic job and this time had a new attachment to try and eliminate the large T-vessels on the side. A week later they were GONE.

Quinn's Upper Eyelid Reconstruction

On May 13th, 2008 Quinn had surgery to reconstruct his upper eyelid because of the damage the hemangioma and scarring had caused. From the time he was a month old Quinn's eyelashes grew up against his eyelid and never resolved as the hemangioma in that area regressed. An upper eyelid entropion was done and his lases now are outside the eye and not causing pain or constant infections any longer.
